Bc Institut za oplemenjivanje i proizvodnju bilja d.d. Zagreb (Bc Institute for Plant Breeding and Production d.d. Zagreb) is a seed company with its own breeding programs of the most important field crops. The company is focused on the market in the country and abroad through the production, processing and sale of its own hybrids and varieties. Bc Institute was founded in 1897 under the name of the Zemaljski kemijsko-analitički zavod (National Chemical-Analytical Institute). It has changed its name several times since its foundation, and in 1961 it was given its current name.Over time, it has developed into the largest institution in the field of field plant breeding in Croatia. Since 1997. Bc Institute d.d. Zagreb operates as a joint stock company registered as a scientific research institution. The company's business is organized through scientific research and business teams. The designation Bc in the name of the company refers to Botinec (today an integral part of the city of Zagreb) where the institute was located at the time of obtaining the current name. Due to the nature of its business and the expansion of the city of Zagreb, the company had to move from Botinec to Rugvica, where it is today.
