Brief History

Sydbank A/S is one of Denmark´s largest full service banks. The headquarter is in Aabenraa. In 2010 there had been about 2300 employees. The company was established in 1970 by the merger of four local banks based in Southern Jutland: Den Nordslesvigske Folkebank (Aabenraa); Graasten Bank (Gråsten); Folkebanken for Als og Sundeved (Sønderborg) and Tønder Landmandsbank (Tønder). In 1980 it merged with Aarhus Bank, with Sparekassen Sønderjylland in 1990. In 1994 it acquired the 30 West Jutland branches of the bankrupt Varde Bank. Between 2008 and 2013 it acquired Bank Trelleborg i Slagelse, Tønder Bank and DiskontoBanken (DiBa Bank) i Næstved.
