Tirschenreuth Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess; above Azure an embattled wall Or masoned Sable with closed gate in centre and towers of the same on either side, between the towers on top of the wall an abbot Or with mitre, holding a crozier and a book; beneath Argent a mount issuant Vert, on mount between two deciduous trees Vert a man dressed of the same with a mattock bladed Argent.
Meaning:
Two local seals are known. The greater seal from 1364 basically displayed the current pattern. It is also known by later main seals and by medals. Secret seals since 1479 displayed only the lower half of the greater seal. So did lesser arms since 1609. The lower half displays a giant (Bavarian: Turse) clearing the forest, represented by the trees, by a mattock. The ensemble is thus canting. The abbot is symbolising the rule of the Cistercian Waldsassen Monastery, the embattled wall with towers the status of a city.
