Shield Or parted by an abased fess chequered of Gules and Argent; a torso of a lion rampant double queued Sable, armed and tongued Gules, holding a sword Argent in bend sinister by his forepaws; in sinister chief an inescutscheon Azure charged with a heraldic rose Or.
Meaning:
The municipality was established in 1978 by a merger of the municipalities of Oberessfeld, Schwanhausen, Sennfeld, Sternberg in Grabfeld, Sulzdorf proper and Zimmerau. The existence of a municipal seal of Sulzdorf is proven since 1731. It already displayed a lion with sword. The seal was in use until the 19th century. The lion probably is taken from the personal arms of Friedrich Karl of Schönborn (1729 - 1746), who had been Bishop of Würzburg. The rose is taken from the arms of the Barons of Guttenberg, but it is also representing the other kins of noblemen, who played a role in local history. The chequered fess is taken from the arms of the Stewards of Wetzhausen. The tinctures black and golden are taken from the arms of the Counts of Henneberg.
