Ludwigsstadt Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, issuant from base a mount Vert, standing on mount an angel with fair hair, dressed Gules, winged Or, holding a staff Argent in bend, topped by a cross botonny Or, by his right hand, and a pair of scales Or, with a naked man sitting on the dexter abased scale and a sitting devil Sable sitting on the enhanced sinister scale, by his left hand.
Meaning:
The angel is St. Michael, patron saint of the local parish church, recognisable by his attribute, the scales. He first appeared on a city seal from the 14th century. It is presumed that Ludwigsstadt gained city rights before 1377, granted by Emperor Karl IV. The shape of the seal and the attributes of the angel changed frequently. The first image of arms appeared in 1767. The current tinctures are conveyed since 1819. In 1953 the town regained the title of a city.
