Bad Kötzting Coat of Arms

Shield Argent a deciduous tree Vert on base of the same.
Meaning:
Kötzting gained the rights of a market town in 1240, which were confirmed in 1344 by Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian. It gained the title of a city in 1953 and of a spa in 2005, when it was given the prefix "Bad" in the name. The 1st town seal from 1409 already displayed the current pattern. The 2nd seal since 1438 displayed a bouquet of leaves with stem, the 3rd seal since 1574 displayed the bouquet tied twice. Paintings of arms since 1562 displayed the same pattern. The name is derived from "Kosting", which had been either a bunch of branches or a tree top. Seals since the 17th century displayed a deciduous tree, first eradicated and afterwards on a base. The tree had been considered to be either a chestnut tree or an apple tree during the 19th century.
