Ried Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, at dexter Argent a griffin-lion rampant Gules, at sinister Azure a stomp Argent with sprouts of the same and six leaves.
The leaves are representing the former independent municipalities of Baindlkirch, Eismannsberg, Hörmannsberg, Ried proper, Sirchenried and Zillenberg. Ried ( = uprooting) and Sirchenried were established by forest clearance, symbolised by the stomp. The griffin-lion, a lion with a griffin's head, is the heraldic animal of the Welfen kin, which had been an important manorial lord in the area. The tinctures red and silver are those of the Chapter of Augsburg, to which Baindlkirch belonged since 1391. The area had been a fiefdom of the Benedictine Altomünster Abbey until 1803 and afterwards of the Dukes of Bayern. The tinctures blue and silver are those of both liege lords.
