On 1 January 2017 the 11 districts of Albula, Bernina, Hinterrhein, Imboden, Inn, Landquart, Maloja, Moesa, Plessur, Prättigau-Davos and Surselva were reorganized to 11 regions (see below). 9 of the 11 former districts were renamed to regions, while keeping their territorial expansion and communes (with the exception of some communal fusions). The districts of Hinterrhein and Inn were dissolved. The regions of Engiadina Bassa/Val Müstair and Viamala were newly created. The subdivisions of the former districts, the circles, were dissolved (Clickable maps of former GR districts and former GR circles).
