Description of the flag

"The picturesque community of Langenburg (1,107 inhabitants) is located along the Yellowhead Highway #16, only 10 minutes from the Manitoba border. Langenburg is also 25 minutes from Lake of the Prairies and a mere 10 minutes from Carlton Trail Regional Park.

Like the rest of the Canadian prairies, Langenburg became the new home for many European and American settlers. They were lured by the abundance of cheap land the promise of prosperity and freedom. The Langenburg district, which at the time was considered in the district of Assiniboia in the North-West Territories, was first surveyed by the Federal Government in 1880. William Syme Redpath, an English lawyer, was probably the first white settler in this municipality. The first people to arrive at Langenburg came from various parts of Germany. This group, the first of which arrived in 1886, gave Langenburg its name and German background. According to settlers, Langenburg was named after Prince Hohenlohe von Langenburg who was said to have visited Western Canada in the late 1880s and recommended this area to German immigrants." (1)

The photo album of the municipal website (2) shows a picture labelled "Langenburg’s town flag brightening the highway" (3). The flag, hanging vertically from a streetlamp, is vertcally divided green-yellow-red with three triangular points of the respective colour. Another picture, labelled "Family and Friends" (4), shows a similar flag hanging from another streetlamp, but vertically divided green-red-yellow. It is therefore possible that other combinations of these three colours are used in flags not shown on pictures.

Yet another picture, part of a series labeled "The mosaics along the highway, done by a local artist, Jan Layh" (5), shows what seems to be the emblem of the town. The shield is surrounded by flags of the same design as above, but depicted horizontally and therefore horizontally divided, from top to bottom of the emblem, green-red-yellow, yellow-red-green and red-green-yellow, although there is no photographic evidence of real flags with either that design or other combinations of the three colours).
