Description of the Flag

The flag of Balneário Piçarras is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 73 promulgated on 26 September 1969.

In compliance with the Portuguese heraldry traditions, municipal flags have to be divided in eight, six, four or three parts, featuring the same colors as the field of the coat of arms and in the center or at hoist a geometrical figure inscribing the municipal coat of arms.
The municipal flag of Balneário Piçarras obeys this general rule, being quartered by saltire, with quarters formed by stripes running from the angles of the big rectangle and crossing each other in the center charged with a rectangle featuring the coat of arms of the town.
The coat of arms applied on the flag represents the municipal government while the yellow rectangle inscribing it represents the town as the municipal seat. Yellow is a symbol of glory, greatness, splendor, richness and command.
The white stripes charged with black stripes starting from the rectangle's corner divided the flag in quarters representing the spread of municipal power all over the territory. The quarters are charged in the center with yellow anchors evoking marine life and tourism. Blue is a symbol of justice, nobleness, zeal, loyalty, beauty and recreation.
The municipal flag of Balneário Piçarras shall have the same dimensions as the national flag, 14 units in width on 20 units in length.
