Municipality

The municipality of Apiúna (10,542 inhabitants in 2017; 49,334 ha) is located 200 km west of Florianópolis.

Apiúna was established on 29 September 1978, as Aquidabã, by 150 immigrants, in a place originally known as Bugherbach. The place was renamed to Apiúna, on 1 January 1944, for a Tupi-Guarani word meaning "a black hill", referring to Dom Bosco hill (390 m), which overlooks the town.
The municipality of Apiúna was established by State Law No. 1,100 promulgated on 4 January 1988, separating from Indaial, and inaugurated on 1 June 1989.

Description of the Flag

The flag and arms of Apiúna are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 53 promulgated on 30 May 1990.

Article 1.
The flag of the municipality has for heraldic description: gironny vert and white; charged in the center with the municipal coat of arms, in full colors and outlined sable.
1 - In the center of the flag, the outer ornaments, the mural crown and the scroll of the municipal arms shall be omitted.

Article 2.
The features of the municipal flag shall obey the following rules:
I - The flag's width shall be 20 units.
II - The flag's length shall be 28 units.
III - To form the gyronny pattern, the flag shall be divided by four lines crossing each other in the center, one vertical, one horizontal and the two other connecting the quadrilateral's angles.
IV - The first triangle, or gyron, formed at the flag's upper dexter half, shall be vert (green), followed by a white gyron and so on.
V - The distance of the coat of arms to the flag's upper edge, outline excluded, shall be 6 units.
VI - The field of the coat of arms shall be composed a quadrilateral of 7 units in length on 5 units in width, in base a semi-circle of 3.5 units in radius.
VII - Each of the bigger stars, argent (white) or or (yellow) shall be inscribed in an imaginary circumference of 2.5 units in diameter.
VIII - Each of the smaller stars superimposed to the bigger ones shall be inscribed in an imaginary circumference of 1.15 unit in diameter.
IX - The imaginary circumferences inscribing each star shall have the same center.
X - The center of the two circumferences inscribing the two middle stars, or (yellow) and sable (black), shall be placed on the shield's vertical axis, 1.4 unit from the upper edge.
XI - The center of the two circumferences inscribing the two dexter stars, argent (white) and gules (red), shall be placed 1.4 unit from the shield's upper edge and 1.25 unit from its dexter flank.
XII - The center of the two circumferences inscribing the two sinister stars, argent (white) and vert (green), shall be placed 1.4 unit from the shield's upper edge and 1.25 unit from its sinister flank.
XIII - The fess wavy argent (white), of 2 units in width, shall be inscribed in an imaginary rectangle of 7 units in length on 2.4 units in width, whose horizontal axis is located 4 units from the shield's upper edge.
XIV - The stripe azure (blue), superimposed to the fess argent (white) shall be 1 unit in width and inscribed in a rectangle whose horizontal axis is located 4 units from the shield's upper edge.
XV - Letter "A" shall be inscribed in an imaginary rectangle of 2.4 units in base and 2.5 units in width, whose center is located on the shield's vertical axis, 3.6 units from the shield's upper edge.
XVI - The shield's outline, sable (black), shall have a uniform width of 0.1 unit.
XVII - The two sides of the municipal flag shall be equal, the reverse mirroring the obverse.
XVIII - The coat of arms and the flag shall have bright colors:
a) Vert: Matching Veronese green or a similar color.
b) Yellow Matching cadmium yellow or a similar color.
c) Azure: Matching marine blue or a similar color.
