Municipality

The municipality of Alto Bela Vista (10,400 ha) is located on the border with Rio Grande do Sul, 600 km of Florianópolis.

Alto Bela Vista was established in 1888 by "Old" Vicente Duarte. Guilherme Fischer built the first house of the town of Volta Grande in 1912.
The district of Volta Grande was established in 1953 within the municipality of Concórdia, to be renamed to Alto Bela Vista by Municipal Law No. 2,668 promulgated on 9 December 1992. The municipality of Alto Bela Vista was established by State Law No. 9,861 promulgated on 4 July 1995 and inaugurated on 1 January 1997.

Description of the Flag

The flag and arms of Alto Bela Vista are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 28 promulgated on 1 July 1997.

Article 2.
The coat of arms of the municipality of Alto Bela Vista is described in proper heraldic language as follows: A Portuguese shield surmounted by a three-towered mural crown. On a field or, sun, mountains, trees, river, cogwheel, chimney, poultry, pig, bovine, wheat and maize. Colors: light blue, green, orange, dark blue and white.

The coat of arms has the following symbolic interpretation.
I - The Samnit shield used to represent the arms of Alto Bela Vista, the first style of shield introduced to Portugal by French influence, was inherited by Brazilian heraldry as an evocation of the colonizing race and main component of the nation.
II - The mural crown surmounting the shield is the universal symbol of domain's coats of arms, classifying a town of 3rd rank or municipality's seat.
III - Or (gold) is a symbol of glory, splendor, greatness, wealth and knowledge.
IV - The sun of fifth rank, orange yellow (on a blue background) represents the sky and the light that enlightens all the municipality's sectors, symbolizing progress and prosperity.
V - The green mountain symbolizes the rugged geography of the municipal territory.
VI - The celestial blue river symbolizes wealth and the beauty of river Uruguai that crosses the municipality.
VII - The cogwheel and the chimneys symbolize social and economical integration for the municipality's development.
VIII - Maize and wheat symbolize agricultural resources and soil fertility.
IX - The pig, the ovine and poultry symbolize the municipality's main source of income, animal breeding.
X - The red scroll with the writing "Alto Bela Vista", as well as the number of the emancipation Law and the emancipation date, represent the municipal symbol.

Article 5.
The municipal flag of Alto Bela Vista shall be vertically divided with the coat of arms in the center, as follows.
I - The left, red stripe symbolizes respect, safety, dedication, fertility and patriotic love.
II - The central stripe charged with the coat of arms of the municipality symbolizes connection with people, spread of the municipal power, from the seat to the inner parts. Yellow symbolizes wealth, glory, splendor and sovereignty.
III - The right, green stripe, symbolizes the municipality's natural environment and geography.
The colors together symbolize the original force of German and Italian people, who predominate among the inhabitants of the municipality of Alto Bela Vista.

Article 6.
The municipal flag shall have the dimensions adopted for the national flag.
