Description

According to Baert 2001, an oval replaced the circle inscribing the mosque in 1921. The above image differs from Baert 2001's image only by minor details. In 1926, Amanullah was proclaimed King and changed the national flag by modernizing the arms.

A friend sent me this hanging flag with tails/ribbons on the end of the 1919–1928 national flag.

Detail of photo showing a vertical Afghan national flag, version 1921–26 (or 1928), photographed on a state visit of King Amanullah Khan in Bern, Switzerland, on 28 February 1928. The design has only slight differences from the flag above.
The visit was part of the king's journey in Europe, mentioned by Ivan Sache on the 1928 flag page. After this trip he decided to change the national flag for a second time after 1926.
