The municipality of Veliko Trgovišće is situated about 20 km north of Zagreb and 20 km south of Krapina. Population is about 5,700 inhabitants, about 1,300 in the village of the same name itself.
Veliko Trgovišće is probably well known as the birth place of Franjo Tuđman, the first President of the Republic of Croatia.

The symbols of Veliko Trgovišće are prescribed by Statutory Decision Statutarna odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Veliko Trgovišće, adopted on 4 April 2005 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 30 September 2005 in the County official gazette Službeni glasnik Krapinsko-zagorske županije, No. 12.
Decision Odluka o nacinu korištenja grba i zastave Općine Veliko Trgovišće, adopted on 15 July 2007 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 18 July 2007 in Službeni glasnik Krapinsko-zagorske županije, No. 12, determines the procedures for the use of the symbols of the municipality.
The current Municipality Status Status Općine Veliko Trgovišće (text), adopted on 17 September 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 5 October 2009 in Službeni glasnik Krapinsko-zagorske županije, No. 23 (text), include the description of the symbols, repeating the former Status Status Općine Veliko Trgovišće, adopted on 20 April 2007 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 26 April 2007 in Službeni glasnik Krapinsko-zagorske županije, No. 9.
The flag is in proportions 1:2, green with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.

The former symbols of Veliko Trgovišće are prescribed by
Decision Odluka o opisu i uporabi grba i zastave Općine Veliko Trgovišće, adopted on 22 February 1994 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 2 November 1994 in Službeni glasnik Županije Krapinsko-zagorske, No. 21.
The symbols are described in Article 4 of the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Veliko Trgovišće, adopted on 30 March 1994 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 12 April 1994 in Službeni glasnik Županije Krapinsko-zagorske, No. 10.
The flag is prescribed as follows:
... rectangular, in proportions 8:13 (vertical and horizontal). The field is divided in two equal parts, the white being above the blue (the field ratio is 4:13). In the first half of the flag, the coat of arms is set at the connection of the two fields, equally distant from the top and the bottom of the flag.
The flag was modified by Decision Odluka o dopuni Odluke o opisu i uporabi grba i zastave Općine Veliko Trgovišće, adopted on 6 April 1995 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 25 April 1995 in Službeni glasnik Krapinsko-zagorske županije, No. 4. The Decision adds a single sentence to the description of the flag: "The flag is sized 1.50 m x 3.00 m.", changing its proportions to 1:2.

The coat of arms is prescribed as follows:
... in a simple shield shape, edged with a red line. Two silver bars, a horizontal one at the shield top and a vertical one dividing the shield in halves, are combined to compose letter "T". In the left part of the shield are the squares of the Croatian coat of arms, red and silver in four rows. In the right part is a green field.
The letter "T" stands both for "Trgovišće" and "Tuđman", the first President of the Republic of Croatia,
The flag was removed from use by 1996 due to the rejection of the design by the Ministry of Administration.
