Description of the flag

South Elgin, Kane County, Illinois, has an official flag. It is about 3' by 5', and the field colors are all solid. Local historian E.C. Alft, writing in 1979, noted: "Designed by Robert W. Claunch, it was chosen winner in a contest sponsored by the patriotic committee of the South Elgin Bicentennial Commission in 1976. The blue in the color scheme represents the Fox River; the white band with the words, "South Elgin", is the bridge linking east and west sides; and the gold stars honor the community's veterans of six major wars".
