New village seal, logos, flag and slogan for Lake Zurich government

Lake Zurich officials say they hope to project a new, contemporary look for village government and marketing purposes. Trustees this week approved a village seal, flag, logos and slogan. Lake Zurich follows Rosemont, Mundelein and Lakemoor in getting an image makeover. Duebner said the tab for the rebranding will be about $3,000, which includes work by a graphic designer.

For about the past 10 years, Lake Zurich has had a logo with a lamppost, trees and other village elements. No one would know it, Village Manager Jason Slowinski said, but Lake Zurich also has had a village flag that was part of a package with the current logo.

"The only flag I could find was in our vault," Slowinski told the village board, "and it was never put up anywhere. I can tell you, I don't think we did a great job rolling out the logo the last time we did this."

Slowinski wasn't working for Lake Zurich when the soon-to-vanish logo was created 10 years ago. This time, he said, the village will make sure it establishes a contemporary, consistent brand through the new images and the slogan "At the Heart of Community."

Featuring a street lamp commonly seen in town, the official seal will incorporate the words "village of Lake Zurich," and two, six-point red stars. The stars represent Lake Zurich's connection to Chicago and the metropolitan area.

That same village seal will be in the center of a white, rectangular flag with a blue band trimmed by offset, thin gold bands across the bottom. "September 29, 1896" will be in capital letters in the middle of the blue band to reflect Lake Zurich's incorporation date.

Slowinski said the flags will fly at all Lake Zurich municipal buildings.

Given that Lake Zurich is trying to attract developers to revitalize downtown, the village will have two logos for marketing purposes.

Each will have the village's name and the six-point red star. The second logo also will include a pergola that's part of the downtown lakefront promenade and a distinctive lamppost style with a paw print.

Lake Zurich High School's nickname is the Bears, so the lamppost paw print is a way to acknowledge that important segment of the community fabric, officials said.

Village board members were enthusiastic about the new look.

"This fits well in our attempt to revitalize some of our image of the community and what we're doing to promote ourselves to businesses," Trustee Jim Beaudoin said. "I just think it's a phenomenal job."

Lake Zurich joins other suburbs that recently received new logos and slogans. Rosemont, Mundelein and Lakemoor are among the towns that recently received refreshed images.

In Island Lake, village board members last month agreed to ditch a 2012 logo and revert to an older version for municipal stationery and other uses.
