About the Flag

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain yellow field.

Coat of arms

Shield Vert, slightly shifted to the base a fess wavy Azure fimbriated Argent and charged with two bezants, in chief two keys crossed per saltire (a sinister bendy key Argent and a bendy key Or) tied Or. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "GONDARÉM".
The pair of crossed keys is an attribute of St. Peter, the local patron saint.

Gondarém Commune is one of the 11 communes of the Vila Nova de Cerveira municipality (q.v.); it had 1009 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 7.7 km².
