About the Flag

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of white and blue.

Coat of arms

Shield Argent, a pile reverse Gules, charged with a Maltese cross Argent, which is flanked by two paly keys Or in chief, and a corn cob Or in base, over all a bar wavy Azure charged with a barrulet wavy Argent with counterchanged colours on pile. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "RIO MEÃO".
Meaning:
The waves are representing the rivers Maior and Meão, the latter being the name giver of the commune. The cross is alluding to the former local commandery of the Order of St. John ,the corn cob is representing agriculture, the keys are representing ironmongery and metallurgy

Rio Meão Commune is one of the 14 communes of Santa Maria da Feira Municipality; it had 4931 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 6.5 km².
