Coat of arms

Shield Gules with bordure of ermines, a Holy Spirit's crown Argent, issuant from base a column Or, in chief a goshawk Sable, armed Or. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "PILAR DA BRETANHA". Please note that description within source given below doesn't match the image!!!
Meaning:
The goshawk is a local symbol of the Azores. The column (Port.: pilar) is a canting element. The ermines are taken from the arms of Brittany (Port.: Bretanha). I don't know, whether there are historical relations to that region.
