Presentation of Paredes de Coura

Paredes de Coura municipality had 9409 inhabitants in 2000, and it is divided in 21 communes, covering 138,2 km². It is part of of Viana do Castelo District, traditional province Minho, 1999 ref. adm. region Entre Douro e Minho, C.C.R. / NUTS II Norte, and NUTS III Minho-Lima. "Paredes de Coura" means "walls of Coura", refering to the cliffs banks of the river Coura (a Minho basin tributary). This is not hinted at by the chosen arms, except for the token reference to the river itself in the wavy fess.
