Coat of arms

The arms are Or semy of apples Gules leaved Vert, over all a sword Azure garnished Argent per pale pointing upwards. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading "MAÇÃS DE D. MARIA" in black upper case letters
Meaning:
"Maçãs de Dona Maria" means "Ms. Mary's Apples" (no joke!) and the former being depicted on the arms makes them partly canting; I can't tell wheather the sword stands for an unusually belligerant Ms. Mary.
António Martins-Tuválkin, 20 Sep 2010

Flag and arms adopted and published in the official journal Diário da República: III Série on 11 July 2000
