[Alcobaça commune (until 2013) CoA] image by Sérgio Horta,

Shield Gules parted per pall reversed wavy Azure fimbriated Argent, in chief an inescutcheon Argent charged with a throughout cross Azure, in dexter base a crescent recumbent Or, in dexter base a fleur-de-lis Or. Mural crown argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "FREGUESIA DE ALCOBAÇA".
Meaning:
The inescutcheon displays the pattern of the oldest Portuguese national flag. The pall reversed wavy refers to little rivers Alcoa and Baça, on whose intersection Alcobaça is placed. That is even the origin of it’s name and thus a canting element.

Flag adopted and published in the official journal Diário da República: III Série on 24 October 1997

Coat of arms

The arms are Argent a lozenge throughout Azure and fess throughout wavy Azure fimbriated Argent superimposed by a Cistercian bend (chequered of Gules and Argent) and in sinister chief a grill Sable alight with flames Gules garnished Or. Mural crown argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "VESTIARIA".
Meaning:
"Vestiaria" refers clothing (exact meaning uncertain) and in Portuguese heraldry a shield with a lozenge throughout is said to be "dressed" (or "clothed") (also in Spanish: < http://www.armoria.info/glosario_heraldico/Vestido.html >), thus canting arms. The bend is referring to the Cistercian monastery of Alcobaça and appears also in many commune flags of the municipality.
