This city of 222,815 inhabitants was founded on May 22, 1772
(other sources say 1771). The white and blue represent the waters
of the Río Bayamón [Ri'o Bayamo'n] and remind us that the first
hydraulic mill in Puerto Rico was built along this river. The
cross refers to the one on the CoA, the Calvary Cross [Cruz de
Calvario], itself representing the Holy Cross to be found in the
municipality's first church. On March 29, 1977, the Municipal
Assembly of Bayamón officially approved the flag and corrected
the errors which existed in the the city code following the
Resolution No. 59 dated April 8, 1971. The current flag of
Bayamón, the official white field of Bayamón, was embroidered
by Mrs. Gloria M. León.

David Ott, a fellow Scandinavian flag lover, pointed
me to a site in Puerto Rico, where we found the flag of
Bayamon...a Scandinavian cross design.

The correct Bayamon's flag is the variant presented by Edward
Mooney, Jr. The color is very dark blue.

Bayamón - On 29 March 1977 the Municipal Assembly officially
approved the flag and they amended the errors that existed in the
Coat of Arms. The present flag consists of a blue plain Latin
cross edged with yellow. The official flag was sown by Gloria M.
León. The flag derives its design, colors and symbolism
from the municipal Coat of Arms.

Are you sure the Reported WRONG Flag is
actually wrong? All my life as a Bayamon resident that flag was
the official flag.
Jose E. Santos, 12 March 2002
The problem resides in the shade of blue. The official flag is
of a dark-blue, not a real blue shade.
