Algemeen Nederlands Comité Onze Marine

The Algemeen Nederlands Comité Onze Marine (General Dutch committee Our Navy) was founded in 1921. Its intention was to raise interest among the general public for the Royal Dutch Navy. Later this idea was widened to the merchant navy. During the WWII, under German occupation, the committee was of course not allowed to be active. After WWII the organization raised funds to order a so-called promotion vessel. This ship, delivered in 1947, was named 'VanderSteng'. A 43 m. long vessel that should sail all over Holland to inform the Dutch population about the Royal Navy and the merchant marine. This ship served the foundation only a few years. Lack of funds and interest was the reason that the vessel had to be sold. It seems that she is still afloat as a private yacht, but not in Holland.
