Kortgene [former municipality]

On 1 Jan 1995 the former municipalities of Kortgene and Wissenkerke merged to form the new municipality of Noord-Beveland. This part of Zeeland province has been constantly struggling against the sea. Kortgene drowned completely in 1532, only the church-tower remained. In 1681 it was conquered from the water, but it was again badly hit in 1953. The only harbour is Colijnsplaat, formerly for fishers, now mainly used for yachting.

The Coat of Arms: paly of argent and noir of six charges and a chief of azure with three six-pointed stars or in one row. Granted 31 Jul 1817.
This was the Coat of Arms of the Lordship with the same name.

The flag: green, with in the center the squared municipal arms, on both sides with a yellow vertical rectangle.
Adopted by municipal resolution on 13 Dec 1965.
