The council informed me their coat of arms was adopted in 1953, being designed by Narciso Olvera Castillo and Alfonso T. Llamazares Zúñiga, which they made and proposed themselves to the council. It as painted on fabric in 1953 by Angélica de Jesús García Avendaño. The shield has a blue outer border, and has a smaller white border which reads on its sides "XILITLAN TAZIOL", its original names by the Náhuatl and Huastec Indians respectively. The inner area is divided into three sections horizontally. The upper section depicts the "La Silleta" Mountains, where phosphorite was mined. The center has three sections, from left to right: a waterfall recalling its geography; miter and staffs, signifying the evangelization of the area by the Spaniards; and coffee tree branches, one with white flowers above and the other with mature cherries. The bottom section depicts the former Augustinian convent from the time of the Viceroyalty, with some trees and grass in front of it.
