The council informed me their coat of arms was adopted officially on 28 September 1972, being designed by Carlos Coghlan Rodríguez. By previous agreement of the council the same year, a call for submissions was launched in which Carlos won. The shield is placed over parchment, having many dots surrounding it. The border of the shield reads the motto "UNIDAD PROSPERIDAD TRABAJO" [Unity, Progress, work]. In its inner area, a small triangle is seen at the bottom which has the National Colors, and under it over a black stripe "TAMUIN"; under this is S.L.P. over white. The inner area depicts many elements: in the upper-right, a baby steps on a book that reads "ABC", reaching for an open book with a graduation cap over it and the sun shining; this is a direct representation of the municipal name, which means "place of knowledge".
To his left, a plane plane and air traffic control tower are depicted; symbols of the Tamuín National Airport which fuels the transport needs for tourists and others in the area. To the left of this, a factory is seen for industry. In the center, a cow is seen in a circle, symbol of the cattle-raising industry of the area. To the sides, trains are seen (on the right, train tracks and an electric pole are also seen); these recall the railroad that passes through Estación Tamuín, established in the late 19th century. Under the cow is a sugarcane, product of the land. In the lower-left, an archaeological site is depicted with its stairs; under this, the statue of a Huastec boy (Adolescent of Tamuín) is depicted with holes in his ears, and to his side are two daggers, all of this representative of its pre-Hispanic history. The lower-right depicts the head of a deer and pig emerging from a hill which depicts a pickaxe and ore, probably for mining potential. Over the hill is an eagle flying; these are significant of its fauna.
