Flag

Located in Itabashi City Tokyo and established in 1949. The embroidered ceremonial flag has blue background with a gold, navy blue and red emblem and gold plaid horizontal band in gold fringe. The university emblem, which has been familiar to current students and graduates since 1922, when Tokyo Women's College was founded, was changed to 大学"University" with the opening of Tokyo Christian University in 1949 to carry on the tradition and to set a new goal of education. The cobalt-colored base of the entire emblem resembles a shield used by ancient warriors, with a burning bonfire at the top and a white dove with outstretched wings at the bottom. The shield, a weapon that protects oneself while advancing, represents "strong will," the bonfire illuminating the darkness on all sides represents "wisdom and intelligence," the burning flame represents "sincerity and passion," and the white dove fluttering in the sky symbolizes "freedom and peace," while the pure white of the dove means "purity.
