He served under Oda Nobunaga and later Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and participated in the Korean invasion. In the Battle of Sekigahara, he parted company with his father and served with distinction in the eastern force. In 1601, he was appointed lord of Marugame Castle in Sanuki Province with 170,000 goku, and in 1602, he succeeded his father's estate and became lord of Takamatsu Castle in Sanuki Province. The war banner has black background with white three Ikoma wheels.
