The city emblem and the flag were adopted on Aug 1st 2006 by Notice No 166 and 167. The white flag has a yellow, a white, a red and a green four color city emblem and the English city name horizontally in the center. The city emblem depicts a great orange tip butterfly flying to the future from a top of Mt. Kaimondake. The three white wavy lines stand for a reconciliation of the merged one city and two towns and also abundant hot springs, the circle for a harmony of the new city, the yellow letter I and u for a city of love and hotsprings. The flag proportion is 2: 3. The height of the emblem is 63/100 of the height of the flag.
