Overview

International Organization for Migration
Organisation Internationale pour les Migrations (French)
Organización Internacional para las Migraciones (Spanish)

The International Organization for Migration was initially established in 1951 as the Intergovernmental Committee for European Migration (ICEM) to help resettle people displaced by World War II. It is the principal intergovernmental organization in the field of migration. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants. IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, be they refugees, displaced persons or other uprooted people.

The Flag

A flag showing this logo on a dark blue field can be seen in a photo at http://www.iom.int/tsunami/photo_galleries/week_pictures/11102005/indonesia_1.htm.

Its flag is blue with its white logo in the middle of the flag, and its English and French abbreviations are placed above and under the logo. Its blue field is darker than the UN blue. There are two variants of the flag. The current one is with abbreviation of Arial font, and the other one is with a Times. The other difference is a rounded square around the logo. While the current logo (based on its website: http://www.iom.int ) is without the thin square and uses the Arial font, I think the other version is a former variant, but still in use.
