The symbols of Sokolovac are described in the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Sokolovac, adopted on 9 February 2006 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 3 March 2006 in the County official gazette Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, No. 3. This is repeated in the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Sokolovac, adopted on 14 July 2009 and published on 16 August 2009 in Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, No. 10, and in the current Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Sokolovac, adopted on 26 March 2013 and published on 20 May 2013 in Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, No. 5 (text).

The symbols, designed by Marijan Špoljar, Zorko Marković, Romano Baričević, were approved by the Ministry of Administration on 24 April 1996, as reported by Erničić [erc03].
They were adopted after a public contest held in 1995 (Glas Podravine, 31 March 1995), following the unsuccessful contest held in 1994 (Glas Podravine, 11 November 1994).

The flag is in proportions 1:2, green with the coat of arms in the middle.
The coat of arms is described to be outlined in white, and presumably it should be also bordered white in the flag; however, the real flags reported by Erničić do not have that white outline.

The coat of arms is "Azure a hawk argent stantant on a triple mount vert".
The arms are canting since sokol means "a hawk" in Croatian.

The former symbols of Sokolovac were prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Sokolovac, adopted on 20 April 1995 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 17 July 1996 in Službeni glasnik Županije Koprivnicko-križevacke, No. 9.

The flag is described in Article 7 of the Decision, as follows:

The flag of the Municipality of Skolovac is green with the coat of arms in the middle. The proportions of the flag are 1:2.

The coat of arms is described in Article 6 of the Decision, as follows:

The variant of the coat of arms and the flag of the Municipality of Sokolovac derive from the literal reading of the place name.
As the choice of elements and signs could not be based on some historical symbol or some decisive historical fact that could be visualized, we have chosen the symbol of hawk with the solely possible holder of meaning.
The hawk is calm, in the sitting posture, without distinctive hunting characteristic and only with pronounced eye.
The shield is divided into two zones:
1. a green bottom ending in stylized tree tops, as it is straightforward knowing the share of forestry in the economy of the Municipality;
2. a blue top representing the altitude, the sky.
