The municipality of Kalnik (1,611 inhabitants in 2001, 418 in the village of Kalnik) was formed in 1997 by separation from Sveti Petar Orehovec.

Flag of Kalnik

The symbols of Kalnik are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Kalnik, adopted on 2 October 2016 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 15 November 2016, in the County official gazette Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, No. 15 (text).
The Decision repeats the description of the symbols given in the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Kalnik, adopted on 7 July 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 16 August 2009 in Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, No. 10. This is repeated in the current the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Kalnik, adopted on 27 March 2013 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 20 May 2013 in Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, No. 5 (text).

The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka.

The flag (photo) is in proportions 1:2, red with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.

The coat of arms is "Gules, on a rocky mount argent sticked a sword also argent hilted and pommed or around which are growing two branches of plum tree vert with two fruits azure each".
It is partially based on the rejected symbols of Kalnik.

The ceremonial flag (photo, photo) is a red gonfalon with three triangularly ending tails, the coat of arms in the middle of it, the name of the municipality above and two grapevine branches below.

Rejected symbols of Kalnik

Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Kalnik, adopted on 23 December 2004 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 31 December 2004 in Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, No. 12, prescribed earlier symbols of Kalnik.
The flag is in proportions 1:2, diagonally divided in blue and gray with the coat of arms, bordered white, in the middle. The coat of arms is described as a shield containing a crown, a fortress, a sword, two plums and hills, fields and lowlands.

The symbols were rejected by the central authorities and the Decision was cancelled by Ispravak Odluke o grbu i zastavi Općine Kalnik, published on 30 May 2005 in Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, No. 2.
