Presentation of Hlebine

The municipality of Hlebine (1,470 inhabitants in 2001, 1,291 in the village of Hlebine) is located 15 km east of Koprivnica.
Hlebine is an extensively rural region, but is most famous for the Hlebine naive art school, producing several painters of the style, among of them some of the most eminent names of Croatian 20th century art: Franjo Mraz, Josip Generalić, Krsto Hegedušić, and Ivan Generalić. There are several prominent art galleries in the village.

The symbols of Hlebine are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Hlebine, adopted on 24 June 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 16 August 2009 in the County official gazette Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, No. 10.
The Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Hlebine, adopted on 9 July 2009 and published on 16 August 2009 in Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, No. 10, include a description of the symbols.

The minutes of the Municipality Assembly tell us that the municipality began the process for adoption of the symbols at the end of 2007, and that a proposal for the Decision on the coat of arms and the flag was adopted on 5 May 2008 - presumably the same as the final Decision. This proposal was sent to the Central State Office for Administration for approval, which was granted on 24 April 2009, so following that the final Decision was formally adopted.
A ceremonial session of the Municipality Assembly included a small consecration ceremony of the newly adopted symbols (Glas Podravine, 18 September 2009).

The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company from Rijeka.

The flag is in proportions 1:2, forest green with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.
Green represents the fertility of the region.

The coat of arms is "Vert a rooster or armed gules standing on its left and holding a paintbrush also or in its right leg".
The paintbrush is a reference to naive art. The rooster is not only the symbol of Podravina region (cf. the flags of the County and of Đurđevac, the symbol of Podravka food industry and many others) but also a frequent element in the naive paintings from the Hlebine school.

The table flag (photo) is of the same general design as the ceremonial flag, only the flag is ending triangularly at the bottom. The green shades are more "usual".
