Overview

Camilo Ponce Enríquez canton (21,998 inhabitants; 64,400 ha) is located in the west of Azuay province. The canton was established on 28 March 2002, succeeding the parish of Santa Isabel, which had been formed in 1959 in Pucará canton. The canton's namesake, the lawyer Camilo Ponce Enríquez (1912-1976), was President of the Republic of Ecuador from 1956 to 1960.
