Falck A/S is a Danish rescue service, established on 3 October 1906 by Sophus Falck, then named Redningskorpset for København og Frederiksberg A/S (Rescue Corps for Copenhagen and Frederiksborg Ltd.), later renamed De Danske Redningskorps (The Danish Rescue Corps, often called Falck-Zonen), Falcks Redningskorps and Group 4 Falck. Sophus Falck had been inspired by a fire in the royal palace of Christiansborg in Copenhagen in 1884, especially by the lack of organisation during the fire. He himself witnessed and volunteered during the accident.
By 1956 the company operated more than 100 rescue stations all over Denmark. In 1963 the company bought its main competitor Zone-Redningskorpset (Zone Rescue Corps) and was called since then Falck og Zonen. In April 1988 the company was sold to Baltica Insurance Company and in 2000 it merged with the international insurance company Group 4. Today it has four business areas: healthcare, assistance, safety services and emergency assistance. The company has 24,000 employees in 46 countries.
