Hendungen Coat of Arms

Shield Or, on central peak of a triplemount issuant Vert a facetted cross patty Sable, charged with an inescutcheon displaying a Franconian rake on the point of intersection of its bars.
Meaning:
Hendungen historically belonged to the Imperial Abbey of Fulda between 800 and 1232, represented by the black cross patty. The triplemount is taken from the arms of the Counts of Henneberg, who ruled the village between 1232 and 1583. Among other estates Hendungen was acquired by the Bishopric of Würzburg in 1585, represented by the inescutcheon with the Franconian rake, i.e. parted per fess dancetty of red and white with three points. Hendungen remained a dominion of the bishopric until 1803.
