Triftern Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, on top of a triplemount Azure a man statant Argent dressed Gules holding a grain strainer Or by his hands.
Meaning:
The strainer (Bavarian: Triftern) is punning. The first town seal probably was made on occasion of the grant of the arms. Prints exist since 1514, which basically displayed the same pattern, although the details often were changed. The paintings of Hans Mielich (1565) and Johann Adam Wening (1721) are based on the oldest seal. Georg Apian (1568) replaced the farmer by a lansquenet. Literature during the 19th century and the medal of the mayor (1819) displayed a naked man with a basket.

The banner has never been approved officially. The arms were granted on 25 April 1486 by Duke Georg the Rich of Bayern-Landshut and re-adopted by the local council of the augmented town on 6 September 1972 without changes.
