Burgbernheim Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale; at dexter Gules a demi-eagle Sable couped per pale; at sinister parted per fess, above Gules a tower Argent, beneath Or a sinister facing bear Sable.
By a forgery the secretary of the local court of justice pretended in 1623 that German King Lothar had confirmed the municipal arms in 1128. Since then local seals were in use displaying the pattern with the half imperial eagle and the canting castle and bear. The tower is blazoned as a castle, and the name of the city means "castle of the bear's home". Burgbernheim gained city rights in 1954. Between 1767 and 1819 the shield was crested by a bear issuant with sword.

The banner was approved in 1957 by Minister of Interior of Bayern. The arms are in use since the 17th century.
