Coswig Coat of Arms

Shield Azure an impending grapevine Or with stem and leaf Vert, issuant from base a meadow Vert with pond Azure, topped by two barley ears Or.
Meaning:
Coswig had been a parish with some 40 farms. Viticulture was practised since the 15th century. There existed a moated castle as fiefdom of the Bishopric of Meißen. The village was bought by the Electors of Sachsen in 1557. After an infestation by vine fretters gardening became an additional business line, mainly producing strawberries, garden asparagus and all kinds of fruit. The arms are based on a village seal, which is known since 1899. The charges are symbolising viticulture and the cultivation of barley as base of spirits, made in the local distillery. The water in base is referring to the Elbe River.
