It is a black-yellow vertical bicolour. The coat of arms is shifted towards the top. Under the shield is a centred inscription of initials in counterchanged colours "STADT"(1st line) "ERLENBACH AM MAIN"(2nd line).

Shield Or, a double headed eagle Sable, crowned Gules, armed and tongued Or holding an orb Gules with cross and fittings Or by his dexter claw and a sword Gules in bend sinister by his sinister claw, in central chief an impending elector's coronet.
Meaning:
The eagle is the imperial eagle and is reminding on the development of the settlement in the 12th century, based on the policy of Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa, who tried to create imperial estates in the Holy Roman Empire. He granted the righst of a market town in 1183. City rights were transformed from a settlement called Neuenthal. The privileges were granted to that settlement by German King Ruprecht in 1402. The coronet (German:Kurhut) is referring to the Archbishops of Mainz, local rulers until 1803. The oldest local seals displayed the imperial eagle without sword, orb and coronet.
