Aitern Coat of Arms

Shield Argent a bend wavy Azure, flanked by two hammers Azure hafted Sable
Meaning:
The municipality is located in the valley of the Aiterbach, a local creek. It was first mentioned in 1352 as part of the district of the Reeves of Schönau, functionaries of St.Blasien Monastery. It became a municipality in 1800 and incorporated the other settlements in the valley in 1934. The bend wavy is symbolising the creek and the hammers are alluding to the silver mining, which was important until the 14th century and again from the end of the 18th century til the beginning of the 19th century.
