Ludwigsburg Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a blue shield is the imperial assault banner (Reichssturmfahne) of the Holy Roman Empire. The flag has a red pole, a golden (= yellow) finial. The banner is swallow tailed and placed bendily. The assault banner displays a black eagle in a golden (= yellow) field.
Meaning:
The settlement developed after in 1704 a hunting lodge with the same name had been completed . Duke Eberhard Ludwig of Württemberg granted city rights and the title of a third capital to the settlement in 1718. The arms had been part of the sovereigns arms. The imperial assault banner is symbolizing the right of the Dukes of Swabia of carrying and bearing the banner in battle. Black and yellow are, besides red and white, the typical flag colours of free imperial cities (freie Reichsstädte) under direct imperial rule.
