Buchhofen Coat of Arms

Shield Or, issuant from base a triplemount Vert, issuant from sinister flanch a griffin's claw Gules.
Meaning:
The arms of the municipality are basically those of the Benedictine Niederalteich Monastery, which displayed a green triplemount on a golden shield and is derived from the legendary arms of St. Maurice, patron saint of the monastery. Buchhofen belonged to the endowment, which had been given to the monastery by Duke Odilo of Bayern in the 8th century. The monastery had been the most important manorial lord until its secularisation in 1803. The claw is taken from the arms of the Starzhausen family, who owned the Ottmaring district (Bavarian: Hofmark) between 1554 and 1759. Ottmaring village had been seat of an aristocratic district, which existed beside the monasterial district or provostry of the Obermünster Nunnery.
