Apparently, the flag of Limassol might date back to 1931, as mentioned by a municipal clerk. The seal of Limassol is mentioned as being adopted before the British rule in 1878. It depicts Greek lettering, part of a lion, and a coin from the 6th century BCE with a lion and digamma. The lion probably relates to Hercules, especially since a place which was dedicated to him existed near Limassol.
