On 20 April 2008 the communes of Avegno and Gordevio merged to the new commune of Avegno Gordevio.

The new emblem takes up the colours of both the old emblems and displays the French tricolore as background. This is a reverence to the principles of the French Revolution which brought equal rights for all inhabitants, old and new ones.
The two-towered castle stands for the two former communes and takes up the motive of the old Avegno emblem. The broad gate symbolizes the geographical location of the two villages at the entrance to the Maggia valley (porta della valle).
The two letters A and G are self-evident.
The white-on-white elements of this emblem are heraldically incorrect and make it difficult to discern it from a distance. (source > page 12)
