Municipality

The municipality of Ouro Verde (2,254 inhabitants in 2010; 18,922 ha) is located 550 km west of Florianópolis.

Ouro Verde (Green Gold), formerly known as Anta Gorda (Big Tapir), is named for the region's natural resources, Brazilian pine and yerba mate.
Mostly colonized in the 1940s by farmers coming from Rio Grande do Sul and the valley of Fish River, Ouro Verde was established as a municipality by State Law No. 8,529 promulgated on 9 January 1992.

Description of the Flag

The flag of Ouro Verde is horizontally divided blue-yellow-green, superimposed in the center with the municipal coat of arms inscribed in a white lozenge.
