The municipality of Pinhal (2,616 inhabitants in 2017; 6,821 ha) is located 350 km of Porto Alegre.
The municipality of Pinhal was established by State Law No. 8,577 promulgated on 29 April 1988.

Symbols

The flag of Pinhal is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 68 promulgated in 18 December 1989.

Article 1.
The flag of the municipality of Pinhal shall have for official colors yellow, white and green. It shall feature a central white transversal stripe running from the lower left to the upper right upper corner, forming two triangles, one in the upper left part and the other in the flag's lower right part.
a) In the upper left part, a yellow triangle, representing wealth and light that illuminates and guides Pinhal's people.
b) In the center a white transversal stripe, where white is a symbol of peace, simplicity, unity and harmony of Pinhal's people. In the center of the stripe a brown circle representing a fertile soil, a mountainous regions and the union of the whole community. In the center of the brown circle, the coat of arms of the municipality as defined by Law.
c) In the lower right part, a green triangle representing plains, arable lands, liberty and the aspirations of Pinhal's people.
d) The arrangement of the green, yellow and white colors recalls the flag of Rio Grande do Sul, symbolizing the municipality's insertion in the state unity; as well, its basic colors, green, yellow and white, symbolize Pinhal's insertion in the Brazilian community.

Article 2.
The flag's features shall obey the following rules.
I. The flag's width is of 3 units, 2 yellow units and 1 white unit at hoist and 1 white unit and 2 white units at the opposite end.
II. The flag's length is of 4 units, 3 yellow units and 1 white unit on top and 1 white unit and 3 gren unit on bottom.
III. The stripe's width shall be 1.3/8 units.

The very same flag is prescribed by companion Municipal Law No. 69 promulgated in 18 December 1989.
The Law adds that the flag was deigned by Carlos Alberto Taffarel and provides a color drawing of the flag as its Appendix, which is integral part of the Law.

The coat of arms of Pinhal is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 23 promulgated in 31 May 1989.

Article 1.
A four-towered mural crown or (yellow). Vert (blue and green), containing: an electric pylone (black) symbolizing Cooperativa de Energia e Desenvolvimento Rural do Médio Uruguai Ltda. Creluz; a pig and a bovine (white) symbolizing cattle-breeding in the municipality; three araucarias (dark green), symbolizing the municipality's name - Pinhal.
Vert or green represents the plains, the arable lands, the resources and liberty; blue represents the sky, the nobleness and serenity of Pinhal's people. The shield surrounded left by a maize plant or with green leaves (yellow green), a bean pod or (yellow), right by a wheat plant or (yellow), three soybean pods or (yellow), characteristic of the municipality's agriculture. A scroll or (yellow) with the name and date of creation of the municipality of Pinhal.
