About the Flag

The municipality of Saudade do Iguaçu (5,459 inhabitants in 2018; 15,208 ha) is located 420 km west of Curitiba.

The flag and arms of Saudade do Iguaçu are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 136 promulgated on 26 August 1997.

Article 2.
The flag of the municipality of Saudade do Iguaçu shall be rectangular, in proportions 14 units in width on 20 units in length, in accordance with Article 5 of Federal Law No. 5,700, with the following characteristics.
a) The flag is composed of two equal fields, both in the form of a scalene triangle, the upper one blue and the lower one green, separated by a white stripe.
b) The white stripe, 8 units in width, which separates the blue from the green field, starts from the lower right angle (host side), following obliquely at a distance of 12 units from the upper right angle. On the left side, it starts from the upper angle, following obliquely to 12 units from the lower left corner.
c) At the central point of the flag, on the white stripe, appears the coat of arms of the municipality of Saudade do Iguaçu.

Article 3.
Green represents the strength of the municipality's agriculture. It is the hope for the progress of the earth. White is the symbol of peace, order, and tranquility. Blue represents purity and spirit, and elevation of man to God. Yellow symbolizes glory, splendor, wealth, and sovereignty.

Article 6.
The coat of arms of the municipality of Saudade do Iguaçu is composed of a Samnite shield, in proportions 7.5 units in width on 9 units in height, surmounted by an eight-towered mural crown, of which only five are visible in perspective view, argent (silver) with black ports and windows.

Article 7.
The shield is divided horizontally into three unequal parts, the upper part being 3 units in width, the central 2.5 units in width, and the lower 3.5 units in width, thus constituted.
a) The upper part is divided vertically into three parts, the two outer parts (green) being 4 cm in width and the inner part (white) measuring 3.25 cm in width.
The green parts each contain 22 horizontal black lines with a gap of 0.2 mm between them.
In the center of the white part there is a Bible outlined in black, containing on the open pages black Greek letters Alpha and Omega, which mean respectively, "beginning" and "end".
b) In the middle part are two green outlined hills, positioned to the left of the field on a blue background, representing the indigo sky, where the sun (yellow) also appears, right of the field, with 16 flaming rays. The hills represent the undulating terrain of the municipality. The sun represents the source of life and light.
c) The lower part, in blue, decorated by 42 vertical black lines, with a 2/3 unit interval between them, features in the center a white wavy stripe, which represents river Iguaçu, and the powerhouse of the hydroelectric plant (generator of income for the municipality).

The other components of the Coat of Arms

Star - Between the mural crown and the shield, in the center, a yellow five-pointed star, with one of the points pointing upwards, representing the pioneers (Italians and Germans).
Cogwheel - Between the shield and the scroll, a red cogwheel, representing industry, which provides income to the municipality.
Winged helmet - On the right side of the cogwheel, a red winged helmet, in red, with a strip and a white feather, representing active trade in the municipality, one of the main activities.
Oxen's head - White, in profile, with the head turned to the right side, to the left of the cogwheel, represents breeding of Nelore cattle in the region, source of income for the municipality.
Rays - Flanking the winged helmet, the cogwheel and the oxen's head, two red spokes representing energy produced by the Salto Santiago hydroelectric plant.
Scroll - Beneath the shield, a white scroll with the following inscriptions in black "19-03-92-SAUDADE DO IGUAÇU-01-01-93", which mean, respectively, the date of emancipation, the toponym and the date of creation of the municipality.
Supporters - Supporting the shield sinister (left) a soybean plant proper and dexter (right), a maize plant fructed, representing the municipality's main agricultural resources.

Meaning of the colors.
Green is the symbol of honor, civility, courtesy, joy, abundance. It is the symbolic color of hope.
Yellow is the image of maturity of judgment. It symbolizes nobleness,
magnitude, and wealth.
Black belongs to the domain of intelligence. It symbolizes prudence, vigor, and honesty.
White (silver) is pure light. It symbolizes integrity, obedience, vigilance, peace, and order.
Blue is the color of the sky. It symbolizes justice, truth, loyalty, and beauty.
Red is energy. It symbolizes force, courage, and triumph.
