About the Flag

The flag and arms of Nova Laranjeiras are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 11 promulgated on 29 March 1993.

Article 6.
The Flag of the municipality of Nova Laranjeiras was conceived by 8th grade student Daniel Gaab, from Colégio Estadual Rui Barbosa, and designed by heraldic and vexillologist Reynaldo Valascki, as follows.
§1. The municipal flag of Nova Laranjeiras is designed in proportions 14 units in width on 20 units in length, with two colors, celestial blue (azure) and white (argent), being the blue (azure) color in the irregular triangles at the top and bottom of the rectangle (flag); in the center a white (argent) stripe divides the flag.
In the upper, celestial blue (azure) triangle on the flag's left side a yellow (or) star is applied, charged in the center with a small dark blue (azure) circle.
§2. Symbolic of colors and parts of the municipal flag of Nova Laranjeiras.
a) The celestial blue color (azure) symbolizes the mild sky that covers the entire territory of the municipality of Nova Laranjeiras; it is also the heraldic symbol of justice, nobleness, perseverance, zeal, sweetness, dignity, vigilance, perfection and incorruptible firmness (Guefi; Asenci, 63; Ronchetti, 126).
b) White (argent) symbolizes peace, friendship, purity, innocence, beauty, happiness, integrity, equity and truth (Guefi 51; Asencio 61).
c) The brown star (or) applied at the top of the triangle is the symbol of firmness. The yellow color (or) symbolizes the existing resources of the municipal territory.
d) The four dark blue stars applied to the center of the yellow (or) star represent the four districts of the municipal territory: Rio da Prata, Guarani, Bananas and Guaraí. The biggest, four-pointed star represents the cardinal points: North, South, East and West
§3. The coat of arms, when applied to the municipal flag, represents the municipal government.

Article 19.
The coat of arms of the municipality of Nova Laranjeiras was designed by heraldic and vexillologist Reynaldo Valascki, as follows:
a) The mural crown that surmounts the shield, being yellow (or) with 8 eight towers, five of them visible and three in perspective view, which identifies a domain's coat of arms, identifies a 3rd rank town, that is, the seat of a municipality.
Red (gules), the color of the windows of the mural crown and of the scrolls, symbolize audacity, intrepidity, gallantry, nobleness and dominance, attributes of the immigrants, the first colonizers who with courage and audacity left their homeland and came here to settle, in spite of the adverse conditions of climate and language, to lay the foundations of the town, which is the municipality of Nova Laranjeiras.
b) The municipal coat of arms is divided into two distinct parts by a Paraná Pine (_Araucaria angustifolia_), a tree that is the emblem of the state of Paraná.
Above the pine a small quarter with a red (gules) cross that symbolizes the faith and religious spirit of everyone in the territory of the municipality of Nova Laranjeiras.
Below, starting at the trunk and root of the pine, the field of the shield is divided in a straight vertical line.
c) The first, right (dexter) field features beautiful cultivated agricultural fields and a tractor managed by a farmer preparing the land for planting new crops, symbolizing the municipality's agricultural resources.
d) The same field features above the agricultural part a large circle inscribing a board with the map of the state of Paraná, a terrestrial globe, an inkwell and a pen, symbolizing education and culture in the municipality of Nova Laranjeiras.
e) The left (sinister) field features three blue mountains symbolizing the plateaus and mountains in the interior of the municipality, also showing the location of the municipality of Nova Laranjeiras on the Third Planalto of Paraná.
f) The same field features below the mountains beautiful green areas used to graze animals, divided by a beautiful river that represents all the rivers in the municipality, which with its beautiful water irrigate all the lands in the territory of Nova Laranjeiras. The green of the plains symbolizes hope and resources in agriculture and animal breeding.
The rivers that enrich the soil of the Territory of Nova Laranjeiras are Rio das Cobras, Rio Xagu, and many others such as the Iguaçu and Piquiri that border the municipality.
Above the mountains the sun illuminates with its rays the vast territory of the municipality.
g) Below, the same field features next to the meadows a pig's head and a head of Nelore cattle, Nelore cattle, one of the main breeds of cattle well adapted to the region, symbolizes livestock farming in the municipality.
h) Above, the same field features a circle inscribing the bust of an Indian, thus representing the indigenous tribes that lived in the interior of the Municipality of Nova Laranjeiras: Caigangues and Guaranis.
i) The shield is supported on the left (sinister) by a wheat plant and a bean plant, on the right (dexter), by soybean plants and a maize plant proper.
These products symbolize the main source of income and agricultural resources of the municipality of Nova Laranjeiras.
j) The scroll beneath the municipal coat of arms, in red (gules) is inscribed with the toponym "NOVA LARANJEIRAS", surrounded to the right by the day, month and year "05/16/1990", date of creation of the Municipality of Nova Laranjeiras.

Article 6 d) was amended by Municipal Law No. 1,302 promulgated on 24 May 2021, replacing the original article.

d) The three dark blue stars applied to the center of the yellow star (or) represent the three districts of the municipal territory. The biggest, four-pointed star represents the cardinal points: North, South, East and West.
